The Show: Ten - Hosted by Mollie King

Scott and I went shopping in Birmingham today, wanted to get a few bits and pieces, including Chanel and Krispy Kreme doughnuts aha. However, we didn't know there was a fashion show that day, hosted by the beautiful Mollie King from the Saturdays, it was pretty packed around the barriers as there was only seating for 100 people each show, But there was about 5 showings throughout the day. We went to two to get some different shots. Mollie wore different outfits in the shows we went to, a gorgeous floral dress that showed her amazing legs and a very pretty white blouse with black trim & matching trousers.

Mini Superdrug Haul

Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder - £3.99
Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation - £8.99
Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer - £3.99

MUA Nail Polish in Plum Noir - £1
Maybelline 24hr Colour Tattoo in Pink Gold - £4.99

So this isn't so much an exciting haul, but I was excited getting it, I haven't had money for a while now and my foundation and concealer was literally about to run out, my powder had finished ages ago! This has left me feeling not very confident with my skin lately but, I got paid my student loan today which meant shopping, I did quite a bit online but brought these few essentials this morning.

Rimmel's Wake Me Up Foundation is my absolute favourite, it is my staple foundation and although I have tried using others and testing them out, I just find myself coming back to this one time and time again. It gives an amazing dewy finish and a healthy glow. It has medium to full coverage which makes me very happy. It is the same with the Collection concealer, I can't seem to find anything better, it covers well, I find it clings to dry skin bits but it can easily be scrubbed and smooth.

I haven't really ventured into trying different pressed powder, I have ordered one from MUA to try, but I have stuck with this one from when I was 15. I have been wanting to try MUA's new nail polish range, I things its a bit sneaky how the bottles are very very similar to Essie, but its just a bottle, its the polish formula and colour I'm interested in, I'm hoping this doesn't disappoint because it is a beautiful colour. I have 1 other 24hr colour tattoo in On and On bronze and I was so happy with the results and application, I haven't had chance to buy any other since I was skint and all so I picked up this eye catching Shimmer pink gold colour.

Pick up anything nice lately?

The Autumn Primark Florals

I love floral, anyone that knows or follows me will know this. I've always thought of floral as Spring/Summer fashion but I'm loving Primark's floral collection which could easily be worn in Autumn/Winter. I picked up these beautiful pieces recently.

The top is a skater dress, with wet look leather 3/4 arms. It is really fitting as I'm a bit curvy and makes me feel very girly and confident aha. I could imagine this with some ankle boots, tights and a big knit cardigan for the cold. The dark red piece with outline floral pattern is a skater dress as well from the £5 dress range. It is so pretty and such a bargain, again, pair with some ankle boots, tights and a knit cardigan would be perfect, even a plain black blazer. The last one, the beautiful black and white floral pattern is a cardigan, it is so well fitted and can dress any outfit up in my opinion, you can see me wearing it in the third/fourth picture. All these items were below £15 each which is a complete steal for the gorgeous things you get.

Will anyone else be wearing floral's this Autumn?

The Body Shop - Free Hand Cream

I'm not lying, it was free! The body shop have an amazing voucher you can find The body shop promotional codes [here]. There was 4 different types to choose from and I went for the Almond one. I love Almonds and almond smelling skin products, so I really couldn't resist. I thought it was so generous of the company to offer these without any purchase necessary, although I was eyeing up the new Vitamin E body butter, smells AMAZING!

This hand cream has jumped to the top of my favorites. I love using hand cream and it is an essential for me all year round, I have quite a few but I love this loads. It makes my hands smell and feel amazing, they are so soft and moisturized almost instantly. The retail price is £5, which I would have no problem paying as some of my other hand creams are in the £10 range and smaller tubes. The packaging on this makes it look more expensive than it is as well. So I'm very pleased, looking forward to using it this winter, see if it beats the winter hands dryness.

Did you pick one up?

#GettingArtyForAnxiety - Green Ombre Polka dot

I love to do nail designs, but this particular design is to help raise awareness for anxiety and similar issues. This #gettingartyforanxiety was an idea created by Molly from Lyon Notes. I have depression and anxiety in my family so I can see first hand what it does to people.

People in general tend to have this misconception that mental illnesses, whether it be anxiety, depression, schizophrenia etc. are all something to be embarrassed about, something to sweep under the bed and to try and ignore. However, you're not alone, frighteningly, 1 in 4 people will suffer from mental illness in a year. Mental illnesses, when left to manifest will strip a person of their personalities, and leave you feeling as if you're a shell of your former self. This is why it's important to raise awareness of mental health, to let people know they're not alone and always have someone to talk to. #GettingArtyForAnxiety is a way of expressing your own personalities, and to raise awareness for mental illness whether you're a sufferer yourself, or a family member."

I chose green ombre polka dots because I'm quite a 'green' person you might say, recycling, campaigns for greenpeace. I care about the world and all its inhabitants, animals, humans and landscapes. I believe they need to be presevered and looked after, this could also come under looking after people you know going through depression or anxiety, give them a helping hand and let them know you are there for them.

To create this look, you can find a tutorial from What I Heart today on daily mix youtube.

Hope you are all having a great day!

The Autumn Blues

Now, I love Autumn and Winter so this isn't a down in the dumps post. I went shopping with what little money I have and brought a navy blouse and a navy wool knit winter hat. I pieced them together with some black leggings and my lovely navy/cream stripe dress.

On my make up side, I wanted it to kind of match so I went for blue eyes and purple lips, which I would imagine is a more winter look but oh well, I liked it aha.

On my face:
Foundation - Maybelline fit me in 115
Concealer - Collection in Ivory
Blusher - MUA in Glowing (Shade 11)
Eyebrows - Avon brow defining glimmerstick in dark brown, shaped with eyelash brush
Eye shadow - White and a light shimmer blue from my large professional palette which you can find (here)
Eyeliner - Collection fast stroke eyeliner
Lashes - Curled and elf cosmetics plumping mascara
Lipstick - Avon colour trend in Intimate

Have a great day!

MUA Fur Effect Nails

I brought this fur effect nails from MUA quite a while ago now, but only used it once and just left it in my nail collection. It is quite a random thing to have on nails in my opinion, and I got it because my boyfriend wanted me to try it out.

To apply, you paint your nails and then put some of the 'fur' on your nail while the nail polish is wet so it can set while it drys. It actually looks good when first applied, its all soft and feels like that felt I used to play with when I was a kid. But I think if you want to wear it for a specific event, you should apply just before you go, it lasts about a day at most. After sleeping on it, the fur seems to have thinned out and it just looks messy.

I think its a nice idea and you can have fun with it, but I wasn't impressed that it didn't last. I can't see myself getting a lot of use out of this.

#Halloweek - Beauty week

Hey everyone, All Hallows Eve is upon us soon, the pumpkins will be out, carved and lit, children walking around collecting candy and people dressing up and doing Halloween make up looks.

So I came up with an idea, I don't mind if I'm doing it by myself or if you all want to join in. She Might Be Loved is certainly getting involved as, we discussed the plans together and we decided to do it together. So, the plan is that 5 days coming up to Halloween is the Halloweek, so 27th to the 31st of October (you can do 7 if you wish but we thought 5 would be more manageable) you do a different beauty make up look in the Halloween theme each day. I have chosen some originals like glam vampire and cat, etc with a few more tricky beauty/scary looks.

I have found the best inspiration is on pinterest and just search Halloween make up look. If you would like to take part please feel free to post your looks and use the hash tag #Halloweek so I can find your posts to have a look. I thought this would be really fun and could give people ideas for looks, if they have a Halloween party or just want to go out looking scary beautiful aha.

If you would like to take part, please message me your details (blog and e-mail address) at drainedbeauty@gmail.com I will be sending out a 'final' e-mail with the details and the plans, as I have something in mind for the Saturday in Halloweek. Any questions? Email me or tweet me at @drainedbeauty

The Mini Pamper

We all love a good pamper evening, it's part of most beauty lovers routines. However not all of us have a spare few hours to completely pamper ourselves but we still need to look after our skin, hair and bodies.

Lately I've not had a lot of spare time to do all these treatments to keep myself feeling gorgeous but I have a few items and bits that I can do/use to make an hour a quick or pamper session and feel fabulous.

First I spray all of my room and bed with my linen spray from Avon in cranberry and cinnamon which makes my room smell amazing after you get out the shower. Then I have a lovely shower and use my 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner from Avon. It is mango and ginger which is great for my hair and makes it feel really lovely. I apply, rinse and repeat twice, after using a body wash I get out into my lovely smelling room.

Lighted a few candles and put a film or some music on. I then apply my botanics clay mask. I've been breaking out a lot lately and this has been a life saver. 3 days after and they have nearly all cleared. After rinsing, I wash my face again to make sure it is gone.

Then there is my mini pamper which gives me some me time and makes me smell amazing and feel great. If you want you can also do a bit of relaxation yoga before bed to feel great on the inside too.

Any quick pamper products you love using?

The Autumn Shades: Lips

Hey lovelies!

I love autumn and I normally like to change my make-up, fashion and all that a bit depending on the seasons, like a lot of you. My go to lipsticks this Autumn are these four, They are all kind of the same colour, except the bright red from Mac. I've been loving switching between them and seeing which goes with which outfit and trying to match my nails. Beauty is so much fun aha. I'm not sure why, but I've been staying with dark reds/purples lately which I love though. From left to right I have Mac in Russian Red, Avon in Intimate, Helen E in Raspberry and another Avon in Berry Smooch.

I feel that a good lipstick can make you look like you've made an effort even when you haven't. Dark lips especially, to me are for going out, but I've loved making them work in just a casual day. It can bring together your whole outfit or give your face colour if you have neutral eye make up that day. Thumbs up for these four from me.

What is your favourite Autumn item?

Guest Post: Vintage Attempt

Hi everyone! It's Georgina from She Might Be Loved and I'm doing a guest post today on Emily's lovely blog all about my first vintage attempt!

I've had a few comments lately on how I look quite vintage and have been compare to others that do, so I thought it was time to try out a vintage look. Armed with the Internet by my side I watched numerous videos and made my mind up on what parts to follow. Having a very large side fringe, that has been trained for over 7 years now means that it was quite difficult to fully follow the tutorials. As obviously my hair knew where it should go.

For my makeup I decided to stick to the classic pin up look, big eyebrows/eyeliner, contoured eyes, big eyelashes and of course red lipstick.

The Sunday Post: Back to School (Well, University)

Hope you're all having a nice Sunday, I'm spending the day with Scott and sorting out stuff for my first day of university tomorrow, well I'm a returning student and did a foundation year, but this is the first day of my degree. I'm studying BA (Hons) in Leadership and Management. All business stuff aha. I am interested in business, I want to own a small business when I'm older, preferably a coffee shop with a small little bits and bobs counter on the side, like hand-made things.

I've always loved to learn things. Since secondary school, I've done a Childcare level 2 course and 2 Level 3 courses in Customer Service & Business and Administration. Then in April I completed a foundation year at University in First line and Supervisory management. So I have lots of certificates aha.

I have to go in at 9am and enroll because they messed up all the stuff and left it til the last minute, so I have to enroll then my lectures start at 2pm aha but because I did a foundation year I know my lecturers and met one of my best friends in the year, so I get to go back with her so I won't be the shy person that sits and doesn't talk to anyone aha. I'm not looking forward to those "games" they make us do to get to know each other. Bore off! aha. But I'm looking forward to it overall :)

Are any of you starting/going back to uni?

The MUA Eyes

My eye make varies slightly day to day, but I normally go for the same kinda thing, I love the brand MUA and the eye palettes are amazing for the price. I'm currently using the Undress me too palette and can't get enough. This is my normal eye make up and I use my MUA palettes a lot, they are perfect, great pigmentation and long lasting. I find they last all day even without a primer. I normally go for a gold metallic colour and sweep it over my eye blending out as I go towards my brow. I then contour the grease with a dark brown/shimmer. I have quite thick contouring and use a standard eye shadow brush to blend in the 2 colours. I love and most days have 'cats eye' eyeliner.

On my face:
Foundation - Maybelline Fit Me in 115
Concealer - Collection in Ivory
Eyebrows - Avon brow glimmerstick in Dark brown and a eyelash brush from Other Stories to shape
Eye shadow - MUA undress me too palette in Devotion and Obsessed
Eyeliner - Maybelline Exaggerate Eyeliner
Eyelashes - Eye lash curler from Primark and Benefit They're Real Mascara
Lips - Elf cosmetics lipstick in Posh

Have a lovely day!

Carly Watts Art & Illustration

Portrait £20

So I recently got this amazing portrait designed and drawn for me by the beautiful and very talented Carly Watts. It is £20 which is a very fair price for the quality of the image and all the personal touches which instantly made me fall in love with it. I asked her to put Cheeks (my hamster) in it and me holding coffee (i'm not addicted, I swear) and she looked at the pictures on my blog and even added in my 'E' necklace that I have been wearing a lot lately.

I am using this for my badge/logo for my blog and it will be the back design when I get some blog 'business cards' printed, it keeps it all consistent and pretty. She will add any adjustments if your not completely happy and she also does banners for the top of blogs too.

Carly is a co-illustrator for Aesthetic Magazine, I haven't had the pleasure of being able to purchase one yet because i'm short on money, but I have heard amazing reviews and will be buying one as soon as I get my student loan.

She is such a lovely person and it was so nice conversing with her over e-mail about the picture, felt like I was just talking to a friend. Go check her out and get a lovely portrait!

Let me know if you do, I would love to see the results.

Healthy Pizza

This is a really quick, healthy alternative to pizza. It only takes about 15 minutes to make and is really quite filling. Make this yummy meal for a quick lunch or along with salad for dinner. You can change the toppings but I went with chicken tikka and green peppers.

You will need:

  • Wholewheat pitta bread
  • Tomato puree
  • Low fat cheese (grated)
  • Chicken tikka pieces (I used Bernard matthews)
  • 1/4 of a Green pepper

To make this Delicious meal:

  1. Simply pre-heat the oven to gas mark 4 and get a baking tray.
  2. Put how ever many pittas you want on the trays
  3. Spread on some tomato puree evenly
  4. Add a handful of your grated cheese and your toppings
  5. Leave in the oven about 10-15 minutes or until cheese has melted.
  6. Then simply enjoy!

I would love to know if you make this and how it turns out :)

drainedbeauty's Blogging Tips

Hey lovelies, I've had my blog just under a year and I've only really dedicated time and effort to it the last 3-4 months but I have learnt different things that can help your blog grow and help people discover your blog. So here are a few handy tips that have helped me improve my blog over the last year.

Organisation

Now, I know you aren't all mega organised, I'm not either, but I've found it can really help when creating and editing posts.
  • Plan your posts for the upcoming week
  • Choose a morning or an afternoon where you have a spare hour and take all the photos you need for that week's posts
  • Upload them and give them there own draft post in blogger
  • Keep a notebook with you or download the blogger app, so when an idea for a post pops in your head you can make a note or a draft post
  • Having the photos in your draft posts can give you more time to write them, if your on the bus and you have the app, you can sit and write it while your travelling.

Social Media

Social media is a big part of getting your blog out there and getting some readers, it always gives you the chance to find more blogs that might just be your new favourite.

  • Bloglovin' - bloglovin' is a website so you can track and follow other blogs you like, its easier to scroll through posts people have written so I'd recommend you get it.
  • Facebook page - It may take you a while to build up your readers, but it is always handy to create a page for your blog, it can give people an easier and quicker way to see when you have a new post up.
  • Twitter - Now, twitter is a big part of the blogging community, I use the #bblogger (beauty blogger tag) and #lblogger (lifestyle blogger tag) because that is the main focus on my blog. The #bblogger and #lblogger is an amazing way to share your blog and posts with people who have the same interests. It can help bulid up your readers and there are also #bblogger chats on twitter at certain times, now I haven't taken part yet, but from what I hear it is amazing.
  • Tumblr - Tumblr is another blogging website, but people use it more for posting/re-blogging photos, it is still a great way to share your blog and interests with people. You can use the tags #bbloggers and #lbloggers again on here.
Everyone uses different social media and not everyone is on the same sites, so using most of them can make your readers more aware of new posts and updates, making sure it can reach everyone.

Enjoy yourself

This is a more obvious one, you clearly like writing about the beauty/lifestyle bits or whatever your blog theme is, but you may come to a point where it feels like a chore or you just have 'bloggers block'. I've had this a few times and normally I just take a step back and not think about it for a few days, I have a fresh mind and the ideas will come flooding back. I think its important to take a couple of days away every so often, else it will start to feel like you have another full time job, but I know for some of you that is the case, and your job is to blog so just have short breaks where you focus on yourself.

Beauty Bloggers!

Please don't feel the need to have the best, newest and most expensive products, not everyone can afford it and chances are, most of your readers can't either. You can be creative with what you have, design different make up looks, as well as reviewing, maybe do DIY products. You could even do certain posts on beauty budgeting, looking great with little money.

Don't be afraid to add a bit of lifestyle in with your beauty blog, it makes it more fun, maybe do a day out and haul post/video. You can always look to other blogs for ideas if you are stuck, but please don't copy, just look for inspiration :)

Be Social

You lot probably already do this, but a good way to grow your blog and interest new readers is to make friends in the blogging community. Comment on other peoples blogs, share your link, but don't spam peoples posts. You can do collaborations and guest posts with other bloggers which will benefit both of your blogs. I have made a few good friends from blogging and its a lovely community. Go and say hello!

Make it personal

When reading a blog, I love the personal touches people add in, the random lifestyle posts, funny stories about experiences they have had. Adding 'yourself' into your posts gives your readers the chance to get to know you and feel like your friend, which they very well may be. But in my experience it makes a blog 100 times better.

I hope these may of helped you guys in any way. If you have any handy tips, please comment them below as I would love to read them.

Have a great day!

Viktor and Rolf: Flowerbomb

Now I'm not one to dedicate a post to a perfume but this really is having my cake and eating it too. This is my second bottle now and it's my third favourite all time perfume. I first sampled this quite a few years ago and wanted it ever since but due to money troubles I could never afford it. But when I turned 21 I asked for it for my birthday and I got two bottles to my surprise.

The flower and musky scent really makes it stand out to me than your typical floral scented perfume. The lasting time I'm impressed with, not as much as Chanel mademoiselle but still a close runner up. It is very well priced for the quality you get and it really lasts you, because it is so strong smelling you only need a few sprays before you leave the house and at around £50 I'm a big fan. My first one lasted me 7 months, mind I didn't use it every single day. But that is still a good time period for one 50ml bottle.

What's your top perfumes?

The Sunday Post: Locals down the road

Hey lovelies, this Sunday's post is about the local shops down the road from me, I live about a 2 minute walk from a little cluster of shops, most of which are independent small businesses. I like going to the small business shops because you get good customer service and they are always so nice. I've found most of the time you get good quality for a good price too.

MUA blush review

(MUA blush in Blushing: Shade 9)

(MUA Blush in Glowing: Shade 11)

I picked up these MUA blushers online, they were in a sale and was only about £1.65 each, so affordable! I wasn't sure what the quality would be like because I haven't had blushers from MUA before but I am so so impressed.

The pigmentation is amazing, you only need a tiny amount to get great colour. Because you only need a small amount, I'm pretty sure they will last a long time, which keeps some pennies in my pocket.

In the first picture I'm wearing Blushing (Shade 9), this is a gorgeous dark pink matte colour. I think this is great for the day and my Autumn make up as I am going to be into a lot of darker colours, I can already tell. But it you have it in your bag, you can add a bit extra on your cheeks with some lippy and your have a night out look.

The second picture I'm wearing Glowing (Shade 11), this is a nude colour with some shimmer. It is quite a pinky/brown nude and something for my everyday look, I'm wearing it right now actually, off to work soon. With the price I'm pretty sure this shade will be in my everyday make up bag for a while.

MUA has great quality and amazing price. 100% recommend.

What are your favourite MUA products?

Have a lovely evening!

Elf giveaway prize review

Hope you're all well lovelies. So recently I was lucky enough to win a bloggers giveaway and got these amazing e.l.f cosmetic products. It was Meg Handly's giveaway and you can find her blog here, I highly recommend you go follow. In this give away I received, a lip defining brush, two hypershine lip-glosses in Vixen and Bubblegum, volume plumping mascara, a lipstick in Posh and a nail polish in Flirty Fuchsia.

I love all of them and cant wait to wear them, I've already applied the nail polish as you can see above, it is such a lovely pink and was very quick to apply, only had to do one coat for great coverage. My favourite items in this giveaway were the volume plumping mascara and the lipstick, I love trying new mascaras and this has a big thumbs up from me. The lipstick is a gorgeous rich dark colour, perfect for the upcoming Autumn, in my opinion.

I've never had e.l.f products before so, I'm very grateful I won the giveaway, do you have e.l.f products? what do you recommend?

Have a great day!

A Helping Hand

So, I'm not going to lie, I haven't used hand cream hardly at all this summer. Naughty, Emily. My skin on my hands certainly isn't thanking me, its very dry and feels horrid. My hands always get dry in the winter so I've started using these 2 hand creams everyday, I like to mix and match between these two because I've always had great results from them. I normally keep one in my bag and one in my bedroom. My hands feel instantly moisturised after applying either one and as I'm using them on a daily basis my hands feel so much better all the time. Which is very good with all the cold weather coming soon.

Monu Spa, professional skin care hand and nail cream with wheat germ and panthenol is around £10 which is a lot for hand cream in my opinion, I probably wouldn't of picked it up, but I got mine in a glossy box and I may have to repurchase because its so good and it smells gorgeous too.

Bee Lovely hand cream from Neal's Yard Remedies is also about £10, but again I would totally pay it. I got this one free in a magazine. It smells like lemon sherbet to me so I love smelling my hands after applying it, I know that's weird aha, it is also very good and makes my hands feel so soft.

Hey lovelies, so like all of you reading this, I'm sure, you love to shop as much as I do. Although I haven't had very much money for a while now, crappy paid bar job, student and not being able to find a better job at the moment. So my wishlist is getting bigger and bigger, I just want everything. I get my student loan when I start uni soon, I feel a lot of shopping coming on, but I can't go over the top...or can I?
