drainedbeauty's Blogging Tips

Hey lovelies, I've had my blog just under a year and I've only really dedicated time and effort to it the last 3-4 months but I have learnt different things that can help your blog grow and help people discover your blog. So here are a few handy tips that have helped me improve my blog over the last year.

Organisation

Now, I know you aren't all mega organised, I'm not either, but I've found it can really help when creating and editing posts.
  • Plan your posts for the upcoming week
  • Choose a morning or an afternoon where you have a spare hour and take all the photos you need for that week's posts
  • Upload them and give them there own draft post in blogger
  • Keep a notebook with you or download the blogger app, so when an idea for a post pops in your head you can make a note or a draft post
  • Having the photos in your draft posts can give you more time to write them, if your on the bus and you have the app, you can sit and write it while your travelling.

Social Media

Social media is a big part of getting your blog out there and getting some readers, it always gives you the chance to find more blogs that might just be your new favourite.

  • Bloglovin' - bloglovin' is a website so you can track and follow other blogs you like, its easier to scroll through posts people have written so I'd recommend you get it.
  • Facebook page - It may take you a while to build up your readers, but it is always handy to create a page for your blog, it can give people an easier and quicker way to see when you have a new post up.
  • Twitter - Now, twitter is a big part of the blogging community, I use the #bblogger (beauty blogger tag) and #lblogger (lifestyle blogger tag) because that is the main focus on my blog. The #bblogger and #lblogger is an amazing way to share your blog and posts with people who have the same interests. It can help bulid up your readers and there are also #bblogger chats on twitter at certain times, now I haven't taken part yet, but from what I hear it is amazing.
  • Tumblr - Tumblr is another blogging website, but people use it more for posting/re-blogging photos, it is still a great way to share your blog and interests with people. You can use the tags #bbloggers and #lbloggers again on here.
Everyone uses different social media and not everyone is on the same sites, so using most of them can make your readers more aware of new posts and updates, making sure it can reach everyone.

Enjoy yourself

This is a more obvious one, you clearly like writing about the beauty/lifestyle bits or whatever your blog theme is, but you may come to a point where it feels like a chore or you just have 'bloggers block'. I've had this a few times and normally I just take a step back and not think about it for a few days, I have a fresh mind and the ideas will come flooding back. I think its important to take a couple of days away every so often, else it will start to feel like you have another full time job, but I know for some of you that is the case, and your job is to blog so just have short breaks where you focus on yourself.

Beauty Bloggers!

Please don't feel the need to have the best, newest and most expensive products, not everyone can afford it and chances are, most of your readers can't either. You can be creative with what you have, design different make up looks, as well as reviewing, maybe do DIY products. You could even do certain posts on beauty budgeting, looking great with little money.

Don't be afraid to add a bit of lifestyle in with your beauty blog, it makes it more fun, maybe do a day out and haul post/video. You can always look to other blogs for ideas if you are stuck, but please don't copy, just look for inspiration :)

Be Social

You lot probably already do this, but a good way to grow your blog and interest new readers is to make friends in the blogging community. Comment on other peoples blogs, share your link, but don't spam peoples posts. You can do collaborations and guest posts with other bloggers which will benefit both of your blogs. I have made a few good friends from blogging and its a lovely community. Go and say hello!

Make it personal

When reading a blog, I love the personal touches people add in, the random lifestyle posts, funny stories about experiences they have had. Adding 'yourself' into your posts gives your readers the chance to get to know you and feel like your friend, which they very well may be. But in my experience it makes a blog 100 times better.

I hope these may of helped you guys in any way. If you have any handy tips, please comment them below as I would love to read them.

Have a great day!

  5. Lovely tips! I personally take a lot of time to prepare my blog posts - that's many hours of taking photos, cropping and watermarking them, jotting down ideas in my samsung note, and finally sitting in front of the PC and writing my content + uploading photos for them.
