My Week In Pictures #2

This week has been really busy for this lady and gone so quick. I've been blogging like crazy and got loads of posts planned. I'm not religious but I also decided to give something up for Lent, just to see if I could. I choose caffeine. I drink a lot of coffee and its not great for you and stains your teeth and I sometimes drink like 5 cups in a day. Naughty, naughty. So I'm currently on day 5 and haven't had any! There has been a few times when I've really wanted some but I resisted. Have you guys give up anything for lent?

Updated: Pamper Night Essentials

My skin has changed a lot the last few months. By changed I mean it's gone to s**t. I've slacked a bit over the colder months, really when I should be focusing on it more, but that has changed now. I have started taking better care of my skin and I can really tell the difference.

I try to have one pamper night a week, I don't always get around to it but I try my best, with my blog, work and writing for The Coventry Telegraph my time is very limited. So below are a few of the things I am using in my pamper evening to get that fresh and pampered feeling before I get into bed. With new bed sheets of course! I love the feeling of getting into a freshly made bed with new sheets.

#tastytuesday Pancake Day

It's pancake day, I did have another #tastytuesday lined up, but I couldn't not make pancakes. I'm also on a healthy lifestyle change at the moment so I've gone for my beloved two ingredient pancake, as the base with lots more healthy flavours added in.

My week in pictures #1

As I am using February to give my blog a makeover, I am scheduling more posts and decided to have 'My Week In Pictures' most weeks on Sundays to give a personal edge to my blog and help me keep up with regular posts. I will also be having a new theme and #tastytuesday which will be a food post or recipe. So get ready for regular posts, hopefully better content and a better layout. I am going to try to more beauty and fashion posts too, so keep an eye out. I'd love to know what you think when its all set up.

So this week I have swapped chocolate for a low calorie hot chocolates, I got the idea after watching a this video from Helen Anderson its really helped me cut out chocolate and I don't snack at all now, which was my big let down to myself. I have also have a lovely treat sent to my from Boomf, you can see my review on them here. Making my hot chocolates a little bit more naughty but is a nice treat after a long day.

It was also Valentines day yesterday, my boyfriend made me some lovely special dinners on Friday and Saturday night, one of which was his home made spaghetti bolognese which is my absolute favourite, we were both skint this weekend so we are going to have our own Valentines day after pay day, Valentines day isn't about presents and we spent the day together and it was lovely. We do want to treat each other though when we have some spare money.

I held a charity day at work and helped raised money for a good cause, Zoe's place, a baby hospice in Coventry. Then being in the charitable mood I have signed up for Meat free week, you can sponsor me here, I would really appreciate it! I would to know if you are taking part too.

What have you been up to this week?

Beauty: Smokey & Nude

Here is a Natural make up look with a subtle smokey eye, perfect for a lunch date or even for a day at work. I've paired the subtle smokey eye with a nude glossy lip and dark blush which will also work as a contour.

On the Face:
Rimmel BB Cream
NYX Dark Circle Concealer
L'Oreal True Match Powder
NYX liquid illuminator
Maybelline FIT Me Blush in Deep Wine

The Eyes & Brows:
Nude, light brown and dark brown eye shadow from Sleek Palette
No 7 brown pencil eye liner
Maybelline Falsies Mascara

The Lips:
No 7 high shine lip crayon in daydreamer
Tanya Burr Champagne Toast Lip gloss

When applying the eye shadow for the subtle smokey eye, use the nude colour all over the lid up to your eyebrow, then the light brown all over the lid, smudging at the line between the two colours so they blend together. I then used a MAC 217 brush but you can use any similar one, apply the dark brown to the outer corner and along the crease to contour the lid.

Roberts Bakery Valentines Lunch*

Roberts Bakery (http://robertsbakery.co.uk/) have a new soft and fluffy loaf, which make any sandwich taste amazing, Show your loved ones how much they mean to you with this sweet strawberry sandwich treat.

Dr Carina Norris says:

Black pepper and strawberries may sound strange, but give it a try - it works. I wanted to make a ‘fruity’ sandwich, and I’d seen a dessert using fresh strawberries with a dash of black pepper. I thought this would transfer well to a sandwich, but needed something creamy to set off the sweet and sharp flavours - cottage cheese worked perfectly for this.

Ingredients:

4 slices of Roberts Soft & Fluffy White Loaf
Approximately 8 - 10 good-sized strawberries, sliced
1 – 2 tubs Cottage cheese (as much as you like, that will fit in the sandwich!)
Rocket leaves (a handful of loose leaves should be enough)
Freshly ground black pepper
Heart Shapped Cutters

Method:

Cut your bread in to cute heart shaped for that Valentines romantic feel. Lay some of the rocket leaves on the bottom slice. Drain the cottage cheese to remove as much of the liquid as possible. Add a generous layer of cottage cheese, and top with strawberry slices. Season with a generous grind of black pepper, then top with another slice of Roberts Soft & Fluffy White bread.

ADD A TWIST: Use reduced-fat ricotta, or low fat soft cheese, instead of the cottage cheese for a healthier Valentines. Using a heart-shaped cookie cutter can  show a little extra love.

Have you tried this kind of sandwich before?

Boomf*

With Valentines day around the corner, people are scouting for last minute presents for there loved ones. A unique and personalised present could be just what you need. Boomf is a marshmallow company, that's right, marshmallows. While the weather is still pretty miserable and people are still reaching for those hot chocolates on a cold night, what's better than a big marshmallow melting in the mug. You can choose your own photos from facebook, instagram or upload them straight from your computer. Boomf then put those photos straight on to some very tasty marshmallows.

The picture quality is really impressive too. I used Boomf for my blog event and they were certainly the favourite. It makes a great present for someone, not just for Valentines day, maybe a birthday or just because. The marshmallows are a good size too, so you only need one per drink so they can last as well.

If you want to get more creative, you could buy a new mug, some little sachets of hot chocolate, add the marshmallows and you have a great DIY present. Even get a big bow to pop right on top. The magical marshmallows are £15 for a box of 9. But with this code ' HELLOBOOMF' for 10% off. Find them at https://boomf.com/.

Have you tried them before?

Valentines Home-made Cookies

Valentines day is around the corner and we don't all have the money to go out to the cinema and go out to dinner, some of us will just had a quiet night in and making some cookies is a cheap activity to do with your friends or loved ones.

You will need:
  • Tin foil
  • 2 baking trays
  • Mixing bowl
  • Scales
  • Whisk
  • 1 egg
  • Cocoa powder (75g)
  • Caster Sugar (300g)
  • Self raising flour (275g)
  • Unsalted butter (200g)
  • Milky bar chocolate

So, to make them:
  1. Pre-heat the Oven onto 200°c
  2.  Mix together the butter and sugar in the mixing bowl until it becomes like a smooth mixture with no lumps.
  3. Add in the flour, cocoa powder and egg into the bowl after measuring.
  4. Slightly mix the ingredients until you can carry on with the whisk (don't want to be covered in flour!)
  5. After whisking the ingredients, if it looks a bit dry add a splash of milk
  6. Break up the chocolate and add them in the mixing bowl
  7. Time to get messy!, stick your hands in and mix the chocolate into the cookie mixture til they are roughly evenly spread out
  8. Get hand sized balls of the mixture and put them on the tray, pat them down into a heart shape, carry this on until you have used all of the mixture
  9. Put them in the oven for 12-15 minutes, they will still be a bit squishy so leave them on the side for 15 minutes before eating.
It's a lovely thing to do if you're a bit short on the pennies and need something to do on valentines evening with your loved one, then you can snuggle up and eat your cookies with a film. If you are a single lady or single lad, then they would be great to make with your friends with the wine flowing.

What are your plans on Valentines day?
