Out Of The Comfort Zone

Recently life has been crazy for me, I've gotten out of my comfort zone in full force. I adore being a mum but one thing that has come along with Lily, as it seems to with most new mums is people drift away. They assume you are too busy or don't want to take your baby out so you sit in all the time watching Peppa pig and In the night garden. They slowly stop talking to you and there is really only so much baby programmes a person can watch.

I've been making new friends and they seem wonderful. They have a lot of similar interests so it is really easy to get on and talk all day if needed. I started this by creating a bloggers group for Coventry. A lot of people joined but two people in particular were super friendly and I've spoken to them a lot since creating this. Amy from Writing into the Ether and Lizzie from Hello Lizzie Bee.

Amy, who is a potter head like myself and most of the population organised a discussion group. I've never been to anything like this before and I went along, pushed my anxieties aside and loved every second of it. I stayed quite for the majority as I was still anxious but everyone was so friendly and even if there were difference of opinions it was in a friendly discussion way. There was no arguing or conflict. Read more on my experience here.

I've spoke to a few other people from the group and they are all so delightful. It's nice to have 'grown up' conversation (if you count Harry Potter as grown up) and be able to go out for a couple of hours and mingle with other like minded folks. I normally never go out but It's been nice to venture into the world and what there is to offer. Since the meeting I have befriended some of the most lovely people from the meeting. Jodie stands out, we have heaps in common and get on so well. Considering one of my personal goals was to make friends this year I'm doing pretty well. Me and Jodie have just clicked, it seems like we have been friends forever and it's nice to have that girly bond back in my life.

Another amazing thing I recently did was go to London for the day and transform into a blonde bombshell. I have never been blonde or anything lighter than red. It was a enormous thing for me but I enjoyed it and again, met a lovely new friend. She was also part of the group and went blonde from red. You can read more about my blondeover here.

A few things that helped me get out of my comfort zone:

  • Talking to people online beforehand (Obviously be wary and don't have a catfish situation)
  • Deep breathing
  • Talking issues through with a loved one, who supports you and pushes you to do things
  • Focusing on the benefits rather than the negative feelings

After these past few experiences I will certainly be trying to carry on getting out more even if Lily comes with me and just enjoy life a lot more.

  4. It’s great you have found something that is working. Anxiety is not a nice thing. I always find not thinking over something for ages on your own doesn’t help. I try and keep busy or talk to friends when I am anxious
